SANTA LUCÍA DE TIRAJANA
Santa Lucía de Tirajana is a small village situated in the central part of Gran Canaria, in the mountain.
This charming town is located on an altitude of 680 metres above sea level, on the area of wide crater of Caldera de Tirajana. Below begins the fertile and greeny ravine of Barranco de Tirajana. On its ground was erected the water dam Presa de la Sorrueda, and around it are the most beautiful palm groves on the island.
Santa Lucía itself is the full of charm village. It has typical canarian character - the low buildings, white plastered houses. Above the town, built on the small hill, towers the church of Iglesia de Santa Lucía, that is the most interesting sacral building in this region. Below the church is a small, however very pleasant park with a rocky water cascade in its central part.

Iglesia de Santa Lucía - the parish church dedicated to Saint Lucy, erected in 1905 in the place of the first chapel from 17th century. It is located at the main town square, on a small hill, and, from a distance, it distinguishes by untypical dome, reminding a mosque in its appearance.

Museo Castillo de la Fortaleza - the museum of etnography and archeology located close to the Old Town of Santa Lucía. In its interior were gathered the memorials of the times of Guanches, things that were found during the discovers on neighbouring grounds, such us: agricultural tools, pottery, and even a skeletons. Museum is surrounded by the garden, which contains the characteristic for Gran Canaria species of plants and trees.

La Fortaleza de Ansite - located in Barranco de Tirajana, just below the Santa Lucía, in the neighbourhood of La Fortaleza, the famous mountain and natural fortress Ansite, according to legends - one of the last shelters and places of Aborigenal defence during the Spanish Conqest. In the walls of the hill are grooved numerous of residential and burial chambers.

Presa de la Sorrueda - the dam, built in ravine of Barranco de Tirajana. The water reservoir is surrounded by the most beautiful on the island palm groves, including the famous el Palmeral de la Sorrueda. In the vicinity of the dam is a small camp, but its usage is limited and requires the authorities permission.

Mirador el Guriete - the viewing area on the road GC-65, in direction from Vecindario to Santa Lucía. From this place extends the perfect view down to the ravine of Barranco de Tirajana. Directly below the terrace are the wide, green palm woods.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana - by the inhabitants called as Tunte, the small settlement located in the mountain part of the island, on the area of Caldera de Tirajana, on an altitude of about 850 metres above sea level. Although it looks quite inconspicuous, it is the main administrative center of whole southern part of Gran Canaria. In same center of the town stands the three-nave church of Iglesia de San Bartolomé, and from a viewpoint located on a hill extends the delightful panoramic view over the villages located below in the valley, for example to Santa Lucía, as well as of the surrounding, high mountains.

Ayacata - a small village located in the heart of the mountains. It's rather not an aim of touristic routes - it's usualy passed over while travelling toward Roque Nublo whether Pico de las Nieves. But it's really worth to visit around February, to see the almond trees in bloom.

Roque Nublo - the most famous symbol of Gran Canaria, the 80-metres high basalt monolith that reaches the height of 1813 metres above sea level. From this place extends the breathtaking view over green valleys, the villages lying below, surrounding mountains, and in sunny days, also of the neighbouring islands. In the direct vicinity of Roque Nublo there are also two else characteristic rocks: La Rana (Frog) and El Fraile (Monk). All three are perfectly visible from many points on the island.

Pico de las Nieves - this highest point on Gran Canaria reaches the height of 1949 metres above sea level. Even thought, on the top of the mountain the military base is situated and this area is completely closed and unavailable, we can admire the most beautiful panoramic view over the greeny valleys and towering over them Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga from the special viewpoint, located just below the peak. In the sunny day from this place we can see the highest peak of Tenerife - Teide, and the shapes of neighbouring islands: La Gomera and Fuerteventura.

Fataga - situated in the mountain parts of the island, in the top part of Barranco de Fataga, the most picturesque village of this region. It is surrounded by palms and fruit trees, and along the narrow, winding streets are placed low, white houses. In the center of the town, on a small shady square is a modest church of Iglesia de San José, and from the opposite - the canarian charming restaurants invite even for a little cup of coffee.
